I'm Back & Happy Movember!

Hi everyone! I hope you are all well.  Winter is well and truly upon us now, and the cold, dark nights are setting in fast here, in the UK.

I've taken a break from doing my nails, as my life has got super super busy arranging for Christmas and several family birthdays that occur around this time of year.  I've really enjoyed taking a back seat and watching the beautiful creations others have come up with on my social media feeds, it's been refreshing.

I thought I better start back with something to honour Movember... Movember encourages men to grow a moustache for the 30 days of November, to support & raise awareness of mens health.  If you want more information, you can click here.  It really is a great, worldwide cause.

MoYou London Rainbow Challenge - Saturday: Purple

AHHHH!! Was the feeling that I woke up to inside my head!!  Some seriously large accounts on Instagram caught onto my Blue Manicure and it seems like everyone went crazy for them.  I couldn't be more grateful!! Its all very exciting!!

Onto today's nail art though... I was working this morning, and admittedly was thinking about it all day.  I don't know about you, but the only thing I can think of when you say purple is rain.  But how naff is that, really.  Great song - but not such a great manicure I think!

I did my usual, skim through the plates for inspiration, when I hit Sailor Plate 04's Octopus tentacles stamp and then SHE hit me...  URSULA!!

I have done Ursula from The Little Mermaid on my nails before - you can read that post here - but I have to say I much prefer this version of the purple sea witch!

MoYou London Rainbow Challenge - Friday: Blue & Video Tutorial

I want to start off by saying, my favourite colour is blue.  If there was any day of the week of this challenge that I should be looking froward to it would be today, right?  Wrong!  I have been sitting doing my nails since 9pm and NOTHING has gone to plan with this colour - at all! :-(

I was very near quitting - I said to my boyfriend, I'm not doing today.  He thought that meant I was fore-fitting the whole thing, when in fact  think you can pick what days you want to do, I just think if you do all 7 it increases your chances of winning.

But then suddenly it hit me slap bang in the face!! When-ever I'm struggling with things, I strip them right back to the bare minimum - this helps me understand things and ultimately "get it."  I know everyone works differently but this works for me - this is how I have done my "Roses are Red" nails and my "Follow the Yellow Brick Road Nails," by stripping the colour back and thinking about what it really means to me.

Every single human being on this earth (I'll bet) has owned, does own and/or will own a piece of clothing made from the material: Denim.  What colour is denim I hear you ask?  Yup, thats right - BLUE!  I suddenly remembered my George @ Asda Denim effect nail polish that I've used like twice... Come here my pretty... ;-)

MoYou London Rainbow Challenge - Thursday: Green

That's it - over half way through, only 3 more manicures to go, whose excited! I'm going to plan ahead for my last 3 manicures, as I am terrible for not knowing what I'm going to do until I sit at my nail station.

I looked through everyone's designs under the #MoYou20K hashtag and there is some beautiful green designs.  I went back to my plates and had a look when something on Fairytale 02 caught my eye.  Green to me means Irish I suppose, so I have done this classy irish fuelled manicure, that, if I'm honest, would be great for St.Patricks day.

MoYou London Rainbow Challenge - Wednesday: Yellow

This challenge is now almost half way through - how exciting.  After I post today's that will be 3 out of 7 done & dusted.  It will be very exciting to complete this short, but fun challenge.

Admittedly, I lie in bed at night thinking of what I can do for my next manicure and can never come up with something on the top of my head.  What works for me is, sitting down with the plates and visualising the designs on my nails.  Today's theme was Yellow and  it wasn't until I was browsing my plates this afternoon, I came up with this idea.  I am a very literal thinker - can be a good or a bad thing, you decide!   So when it was red, I used "roses are red" as my inspiration..  Today's idea ended up a bit like that..  What is long, famous, iconic and yellow?!  No, not Homer Simpsons head!! The Yellow Brick Road of course!! :-)

MoYou London Rainbow Challenge - Tuesday: Orange

Hi everyone (again!)  Cracking on with MoYou London's Rainbow challenge, Tuesdays colour was Orange.  I struggled coming up with an idea for this one actually.  I have one of their Easter plates which has carrots on, but because you can only use the daily colour, black and/or white, my carrots wouldn't have had any green at the top, so I had to 100% think of something else.

My boyfriend decided to Google it for me, and was shouting random things at me like Doritos and Garfield, its so easy to say yes, okay, I'll do that - but how to encorporate the MoYou plates?!  Finally, he shouted an idea, I just simply went with it, and I'm really happy with the outcome - GOLDFISH!

Goldfish are gold by name but are Orange by nature, so here is what I came up with...

MoYou London Rainbow Challenge - Monday: Red

Hi everybody!  Welcome back to Spangley Nails.  I am sorry I have not been posting as regularly as I would've normally...  Its not because I didn't feel like it, its because I have really bad eczema that has totally flared up on my left hand/4 fingers - the ones I paint, like, all the time.  It looks very unsightly and is making me very sad.  Does anyone else out there have this problem?  How do you control it?

Anyway, I have decided that I am no longer going to allow dry skin to ruin my polishing party so have decided to come back with a vengeance and participate in the MoYou London Rainbow Challenge on Instagram.

Basically, this challenge will run for a week - much more realistic than the last one, AND all you have to do is post a manicure with the corresponding colour of that day - I will post said itinerary at the end.  I am posting Monday's Manicure (as MoYou annouced it quite late, they said it was A-OK to post yesterday's, today) and todays.  The only real rule, as such, with this challenge is that you can only use the colour of the day, black and/or white on your nails (as well as MoYou Stamps) - oh boy, have I underestimated this bad boy?!

As you can see by the title of this blog, Monday was Red day.  I remembered the green roses I done for depression awareness last Sunday (if you missed it, read it here) and kept chanting "roses are red..." SO I done a spin off of my #FightForLightAndLive manicure for Day One.

1 Manicure; Worn 3 Ways

Ever have one of those weeks where you seem to have NO time to do your nails.  Yup, that would be me this week.  I did a manicure on Saturday, and haven't had the chance to do anything since then.

One of the main reasons why I love nails inc polishes is they have loads of different special effects, so if your wearing a plain colour for work all week, you can throw on a layer of glitter on Friday night for the weekend therefore no need to spend however long it takes you to re-paint your nails for your night out.  Voila! You've ultimately recycled your boring work manicure.

I've did just that this week with my nail art.  I've learnt a new technique using my fan brush (tutorial coming reeeeal soon, so look out for that one my friends!) and have been changing it up for the last 5 days because I love it so much and I've had no time, boo! :(

#FightForLightAndLive Depression Awareness Nail Art

After the tragic passing of Robin Williams just under a week ago, the nail art community decided to come together and paint our nails green in honour and respect of depression awareness - which is what caused Robin Williams to take his own life.  If you are suffering from depression or its sidekick anxiety you need to speak up! Sometimes this can be the hardest thing in the world to even think about doing, but it will be so worth it in the end.

What a tragic loss of life RW was - I think everyone felt it.  Its not like I knew him personally, and you reading this probably didn't either, but everyone knew him in a different movie playing a wide verity of characters.  A career which spans over so many generations.  Whether it was Jumanji, Mrs Doubtfire or Aladdin, it was Good Will Hunting or Good Morning Vietnam.  A true legend indeed.

I decided to paint my nails white, with some green floral stamping.  I love this plain, simple and delicate look.

Stamping Decals Made With MoYou London Stamping Plate

I started off writing this post last night, but had no idea how to finish it in an upbeat mood given the news that graced the world yesterday.  I was so utterly shocked to hear that Robin Williams had died in such tragic circumstances.  The nail community has decided to paint their nails green in honour of him on Sunday, I will absolutely definitely be participating in this and hope that if your reading this, part of the nail community or not, you will do the same.  If you do, be sure to post your nails under the hashtag #FightForLightAndLive.  A collage of my favourite Robin Williams movies will be after my nail art.

The nail art I have to share with you is stamping decals made with MoYou Londons Fairytale Plate 05.  I have done 2 variations of it as I wasnt 100% happy with it.  Be sure to let me know which one you prefer - the second one is after the jump.

#NailArtJul Round Up & Happy 45th Anniversary Abbey Road Photo!

Hi everyone!  Bit of an exciting post today as I round up #NailArtJul and post some Beatles nail art for this momentous day in history.  45 years ago today the 4 Beatles stepped out from Abbey Road Studios onto Abbey Road and Iain Macmillan snapped the famous picture of the 4 men crossing the road at the Zebra crossing.  Being a MASSIVE Beatles fan, I couldn't let this day go by without doing some nail art to mark it with.

I recently got my hands on the MoYou London Time Traveller 70's Plate 01 which has a really neat image of this famous scene on it - I knew it would be perfect for what I wanted to do.  I didn't want to take anything away from the scene shown on middle and ring fingers below which is why I just painted the other 2 nails with Space Dust...

#NailArtJul Day 19 - Pop Art

Hi all :) I hope you all had a chance to read my earlier "Great Budget Nail Polish Brands" article - if not you can catch up here.  I've been told its well worth a read, so please do check it out when you can! Back today with Pop Art Nail Art which makes me officially caught up with #NailArtJul.  Nails Inc recently brought out a collection of polishes they named "Pop Art," so without knowing what sort of nail art I wanted to depict on my nails, I knew I wanted to include my bottle of Pop Art in the manicure/finished article- I am sorry if it makes the picture look a bit busy. :-(

#NailArtJul Day 16 - Vintage

Hi everyone & Happy Sunday.  2 things have totally blown my mind in the last 24 hours, and I mean seriously blown:-
1.  The reaction to yesterdays nail art, 1 word - WOWZERS.  The response has been incredible.  My Instagram feed totally blew up (in a good way) with likes, comments and new followers.  I am so grateful to have new followers, old followers and faithful followers so Welcome aboard this Happy Spangley Family!  If you missed yesterdays post, not to worry, catch up here.
2.  The weather in the UK right now is, 1 word - TROPICAL.  We are having such a heat wave! Not to worry though, I'm using the fact that I have bad Hay Fever as an excuse to stay indoors and paint my nails, mwahaha - where are you in the world?  What's the weather like where you are?

Without further ado though, onto today's nail art, and continuing with #NailArtJul the prompt for today was Vintage.  I was quite enjoying today's nails, but no doubt they'll not be as successful as yesterdays.

Disney Week: {4 Nails, 1 Movie} Day 2 - The Little Mermaid

Hi everyone to what I think might be the hottest day of the year - wow... I am actually melting.  Anyway, trying to channel the thought of cooling down with day 2 of my Disney; 4 Nails, 1 Movie theme which is The Little Mermaid.

Released in 1989, this makes the classic tale of Ariel only 1 year older than me.  It is one of the Disney movies that I have to admit to knowing least about, but I am aware (obviously) of the plot, songs, characters and story.  There's a funny meme that I've seen floating round the Nail Art Community based on the famous song "Part of Your World."  You will find it after the jump.

Fun Fact: Ariel is only occasionally drawn with fingernails - throughout the movie sometimes she has them and sometimes she doesn't! (Look closer next time you watch!) poor soul will never experience nail polish.

Happy Fathers Day Nail Art

As promised, here is my Nail Art dedicated to my fabulous Dad on this special day.  It is a rather personal design, so I would appreciate if you liked it for what it is, this dedication to my father :-) Going through the design, I done a tie as he is a business man and a pint of John Smiths - his favourite.  I also stamped Mickey Mouse from MoYou London Pro Plate 10 as if you know my Dad you'll know he's forever drawing Mickey Mouse lol - CONSTANTLY and number 17 is his lucky number :-)

MoYou London: 31 Day Challenge - Day 11 Cupcakes

Hi everyone, back again for another 10 days of MoYou London 31 Day Challenge and I'm kicking it off with Cupcakes! I love doing freehand cupcakes, so was really looking forward to this theme.  There is a stamp of a cupcake on the Pro Collection Plate 04, but I was looking for something a bit different, so here is my take...  I can hear you saying where is the stamping for this design?! MoYou London: 31 Day Challenge - Day 10 Geometric

Hi everyone.  Officially now a third of the way through the MoYou London 31 Day Challenge! This is day 10 - Geometric.  I was up to my old tricks again with today, I had to Google.  After that, I realised that Geometric is shapes of all different colours and sizes, so I came up with this...

MoYou London: 31 Day Challenge - Day 9 Superhero

Hi everyone.  Happy Tuesday! I'm back with yet another MoYou London fuelled post!  This is day 9 and the prompt is Superhero.  When I originally researched this day, my original thought was to free hand some Superhero badges onto my fingers, from Super Man to Batman, then I planned to use the zip stamp from Princess Plate 09 over the top of them to look like the Superhero's do when they change from (for example) Clark Kent to Superman or Peter Parker to Spiderman.  So, I attempted this brilliant plan, and it just didn't flow.  My fingers really didn't look right.  So I removed them and went back to the drawing board.  Maybe I just had to think outside the box for a little while.

I don't know about you, but where I live, there is no Clark Kent's or Bruce Wayne's waiting to rip off their jacket and save people from the bad guys.  But what what I do have is my family and I think they're the real Superhero's! Correct me if I'm wrong, but who'se the first people you turn to when you have a problem?  Your Family.  Who'se the first people you call when you have good or bad news?  Your Family.  And who'se always there, to "save you from the bad guys?" Every scenario I come up with the answer is always my family - they're the real Superhero's here.  They're all super-star's to me, and shine in lots of different ways.  So, this manicure is dedicated to them...

MoYou London: 31 Day Challenge - Day 8 Food

Hi everyone.  Hope you've had a great weekend where-ever you are. I'm back today with the MoYou London 31 Day Challenge and the prompt was Food.  When I first seen this one, I panicked a bit because the only "food" stuffs on the plates I own are a carrot and some lollipops! So I went with the latter option and ended up with this...

MoYou London: 31 Day Challenge - Day 7 Red

Hi everyone.  Oh today was tricky! The theme for MoYou Londons 31 Day Challenge was Red.  The possibilities for this are endless, I suppose.  The night before last I had hundreds of ideas running through my mind; lipstick, ladybirds, strawberries and even blood at one point! I finally settled on "Roses are Red..." as I'm all about simplicity and that poem is definitely that!
